I've noticed in the past couple of months my hair has been falling out more than normal, with the white bulb attached. I went to the doctor and he did blood tests and my thyroid was fine, no diabetes, I did show a bit of a low iron level though so he prescribed me iron pills.
I also went to the dermatologist and he didn't seem that concerned either, asked the usual questions about stress (I'm as stressed as the next person, diet (mine's not great, but it's not terrible either), etc. He told me I need to take more blood tests and I still need to do those (I think they're for ANA, whatever that is, testosterone and what looks to be DHT? Handwriting is of course sloppy)
I've been taking multivitamins and biotin and drinking protein shakes and I THINK the hair loss has slowed slightly, but I still see hairs in my hairbrush with the root attached, and the hair on the top of my head is noticeable thinner, at least to me. How much more am I going to lose??? I'm freaking out

I am 20 yrs old, and i went thru the same thing about 3-4 months ago... doctor said i was totally healthy and fine, and after tons of testing and blood/urine test and work, it was finalized as SEVERE STRESS. i lost alot of hair, especially in the shower, i would leave with tons of hair at the bottom of the drain...but dont worry, your body will never let you lose THAT much hair, to the point where you look like your balding or anything...dont you worry....at all. take vitamins, over the counter and use a hair strengthening shampoo...also, make sure you try to get adquate rest at nite, and try to free your mind of stress and worries, bc that will only make things worse... try drinking some warm milk or hot tea before you go to bed, and/or do what i did when i was going nuts with stress: take YOGA. it teaches you how to breathe and relaxe and just calm yourself down when your totally stressed.
sometimes i think that yoga was the only thing that kept me from going crazy... i hope you feel better..and good luck

When i first went to college i got extremely stressed. I was losing excesive amounts of hair. Has there been one thing in your life that you have been stressing about, like grad school, or graduating from college, anything like that can trigger that. My brother lost patches of hair during highschool, and he ended up growing it all back. It took a while, but i think it could def. be stress!!!!

Do you have any other symptoms? Do you gain weight easily, have skin issues?
Your dr. is right to check your hormone levels (estrogen, testosterone, progesterone). Your ANA is Anti-Nuclear Antibodies. He is probably ruling out auto-immune diseases.
I have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and my main symptom, besides weight gain, was hair loss. I lost about half the hair on my head. I lost it most of all on the top of my head. My testerone and estrogen levels are all messed up.

Hair fall is always due to 4 basic reasons 1. dandruff 2. lice 3.skin infection and 4. weakness or loss of vitamins. Apart from this usage of shampoos and cosemetic oils and a hair dryer also are reasons for a hair fall. Do the following for a month and see the results.
1. Wash your head only with baby shampoo and then wash with anti dandruff shampoo once in a week. Apply pure boiled and cooled coconut oil very little because excess would result in a dust sticking. Eat plenty of green vegetables, eat salted chashew nuts and almonds ( 10 grms everyday) , 1 teaspoon of honey, figs (3 nos every day) codliver oil 1 teaspoon everyday avoid heavy meat %26amp; other fatty foods. All the best.

what about taking some Omega-3's ? If you go to completerelaxation.usana.com, click on "company", then "science", then "ASK The Scientist - US" you can submit that question to an expert team of researchers in the nutritional field and you should get an answer promptly. Hope it helps
